A roster can have excellent hitters and still lack a catcher. That tension is part of the draft. The game shows you the gap instead of secretly guaranteeing a perfect positional mix.
Coverage is not a completed lineup
The board counts the natural positions of your drafted hitters. One versatile player may light up several positions, so an all-green board does not prove that all nine slots can be filled perfectly at once. Check the assigned fit on the lineup screen.
Catcher and shortstop are specialist jobs
In this simulation, a non-catcher at catcher receives a substantial fit penalty and also affects the pitching model. Shortstop assignments have stricter penalties than some other infield moves. These are game rules, not official assessments of real players.
Order and defense are independent
Dragging a hitter in the batting order retains that player’s defensive position. Change defense by tapping the field or using the position selector. Swaps are atomic so positions cannot disappear or be occupied twice.
A bad season can set up a good story
You do not need a perfect opening roster. Completing a no-catcher season can earn a story tag. In the offseason, use up to three replacements to address the weaknesses you actually experienced.
